In light of the challenges posed to rising lawyers in today's challenging job market, ASIL is organizing for students at its Academic Partner schools an important, town hall-style career development meeting at its headquarters that will be simulcast live as a webinar for viewing and participation by students at Partner schools throughout the country. Audience members--both in-person and via the web--are encouraged to be prepared with questions for the speakers.



Speakers:



Roncevert (Ronce) Almond, Associate at the Wicks Group

Ronce’s practice encompasses the field of international aviation law, public and private. Prior to joining The Wicks Group, he worked with the United Nations Special Court for Sierra Leone and participated in both the Duke-Geneva Institute for Transnational Law and the Oxford-GW Human Rights Law Program.

Natalie Reid, Associate at Debevoise and Plimpton

Natalie focuses on public international law, international litigation, and international arbitration matters. Prior to joining Debevoise in 2006, Natalie was an Associate Legal Officer at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague from 2004 to 2006, and clerked for Judge Betty Fletcher of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Seattle, Washington from 2003 to 2004.

Bart M. J. Szewczyk, Senior Associate at Wilmer Hale

Bart practices in the Litigation/Controversy Department of Wilmer Hale. Prior to joining that firm, Bart clerked at the International Court of Justice in The Hague and the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He was also a visiting fellow at the EU Institute for Security Studies, and a consultant in the United Nations Office of Strategic Planning.

Erik J. Woodhouse, U.S. Department of State, Office of the Legal Adviser

Prior to joining the Office of the Legal Adviser, Erik served as a post-doctoral fellow with the Program on Energy & Sustainable Development at Stanford University and as a law clerk for Judge M. Margaret McKeown of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Erik was also an associate at Latham & Watkins LLP, where his practice included transactional work in international infrastructure development and investment in the energy sector.

Lisl Brunner, Inter-American Human Rights Commission

Lisl’s work involves evaluating claims of human rights violations and urgent requests for protection presented by social activists, journalists, and indigenous communities in the Americas. She also supports the Commissioners in mediating disputes between OAS Member States and petitioners. Prior to joining the Inter-American Commission, she worked at a human rights organization in Argentina and in indigent criminal defense. She is a fluent Spanish speaker and has published several articles on human rights issues in the Americas.

Diana Goff, 2010 ASIL Fellow

Diana practiced in the litigation department of the New York office of Shearman & Sterling LLP from 2007-2009, and will be returning to the firm at the conclusion of her fellowship in October 2010. She interned for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia from 2006-2007, and was an Associate Legal Officer for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda from 2009-2010.
